THE WHAT? Coty has reported a strong Q2 across metrics, with increased advertising and consumer promotions leading to 30 percent of sales in the quarter. 

THE DETAILS Speaking on an investor call, Chief Financial Officer Laurent Mercier stated that marketing investment was increased to “capitalise on the strong momentum” of key brands including new launches Gucci Flora Gorgeous Gardenia and Burberry Hero fragrances.

Coty’s sales increased 12 percent as reported, with the Consumer Beauty business gaining sales growth momentum and market share.

The Prestige segment generated solid 12 percent reported and like-for-like growth in Q2, with prestige fragrance sales continuing to grow at a double-digit pace in Q2.

Consumer Beauty revenues increased 11 percent as reported and 12 percent like-for-like in Q2. CoverGirl, Rimmel, Sally Hansen and Max Factor all saw market gains. 

THE WHY? Media reinvestment was heralded as helping to fuel the growth. 

CEO Sue Y Nabi said, “The second quarter, and even more so the first half, further illustrates the virtuous cycle we have created. Strong topline growth combined with gross margin expansion and strong cost execution are generating both profit growth and re-investment in the business in the most promising opportunities.”

Full year guidance 2022 is predicted to be at the upper end of the guidance range.
