THE WHAT? Japan Airlines has launched a dedicated cross-border WeChat channel to help J-beauty brands reach Chinese shoppers, according to a report published by Nikkei Asia.
THE DETAILS The airline teamed up with e-commerce company Youzan to launch JAL Youxuan, as the mini channel has been named, at the end of January. The service is part of Japan Airlines’ JAL Furusato Project.
Participating brands will pay for warehousing at Haneda Airport, registration and customs, while JAL covers product transport.
THE WHY? Japan Airlines is hoping that the new channel will not only help maintain sales in the face of ongoing travel restrictions but also keep Japan and all things Made in Japan in the minds of consumers, encouraging them to travel once borders reopen, Nikkei reports.
